The network includes technical features such as whoops, switchbacks, water crossings, and rock beds, with most trails designated at More and Most Difficult levels and only a few easy options available. Individual trail lengths vary from 1 to 20 miles, operating between 4,000 and 6,000 feet elevation with access dependent on weather conditions and snow melt. The system connects with the Gold Note OHV network, creating an interconnected trail complex managed by the Placerville Ranger District on the north end and Amador Ranger District on the southern portion.
Located between Mormon Emigrant Trail and Highway 88, the area operates without user fees through Green Sticker OHV funding support via cooperation between the Eldorado National Forest and State of California. Primary camping occurs at Elkins Flat Trailhead, which provides restroom facilities and information boards but lacks water or garbage services. The forested setting offers shaded riding conditions, though trails can become dusty with some sections experiencing whooped-out conditions and patches of loose rock.
