Jawbone OHV area encompasses a sprawling desert landscape in Southern California with hundreds of miles of trails offering diverse riding opportunities from cross-country play to advanced technical hill climbing. The terrain accommodates every skill level across the massive open-riding area, which also serves as a gateway to additional riding destinations including Randsburg and Dove Springs. The 17-mile Jawbone Canyon Trail features extremely steep hill climbs connecting Jawbone Canyon and Dove Springs, with deep washes and extended loop routes that become increasingly scenic beyond the aqueduct crossing. Outside the main OHV area, motorized vehicle use is restricted to designated road and trail networks within the Jawbone-Butterbredt Area of Critical Environmental Concern, marked with brown trail markers and prohibiting cross-country travel.
Located in high desert terrain, the area experiences harsh climate conditions with summer temperatures often exceeding 100 degrees and winter lows dropping below freezing. The rugged and remote landscape presents challenging conditions that can be dangerously hot during summer months. The entire OHV area and surrounding public lands permit primitive camping, with numerous campsites and staging areas accessible by 2-wheel drive vehicles with trailers. California OHV registration (Green or Red Sticker) is mandatory for non-street legal vehicles, with out-of-state visitors requiring valid home state permits or California Non-Resident OHV Permits available at the Jawbone OHV Station.Dirt Bike Trail System
