Located approximately an hour north of Dallas, Eisenhower State Park in Texas offers the Ironweed OHV Trail System, a 3.3-mile network of paths specifically designed for off-road vehicles. This trail system provides a diverse riding experience, catering to various skill levels. New riders can build confidence on the easy .5-mile Pee Wee Practice Area, a flat and straightforward section. The other segments—Blackland Ramble, Big Woods Canyon, and Timber Rattler Run—feature moderate to challenging conditions. Riders can anticipate navigating a mix of terrain, including open prairie, wooded areas, and ravines. The trails are generally hard-packed with some loose dirt, and while not rated as having expert-level terrain, they include some steep hills and water crossings, such as a narrow stream on the Timber Rattler Run trail. The trails lack singletrack and are lightly maintained but marked.
The trails at Eisenhower State Park are designated exclusively for OHV use, including dirtbikes and ATVs. All vehicles must not exceed 50 inches in width, and riders are required to have a valid Texas OHV decal and safety certification. These can be obtained at the park headquarters. The trail system is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, though closures may occur due to weather or capacity limits.
