The South Camp Peak Loop consists of approximately 14 miles of old fire roads and wide ATV trails that overlook the eastern shores of Lake Tahoe, providing spectacular scenic views of the Tahoe basin. The trail system features primarily wide, non-technical routes through dense forest environments, making it well-suited for beginners and ATV/UTV riders seeking scenic touring rather than challenging terrain. The area includes long paved sections that make it less suitable for motorcycle use, and single-track trails in the region are designated for non-motorized use only. Access is via the staging area on King's Canyon Road, with the route terminating near Spooner Summit on Highway 50.
The trail system connects to the broader Spooner Summit area recreation network and is located close to the Kingsbury Stinger and Genoa Peak Trail systems. Riders share the area with pedestrians, equestrians, and mountain bikers on numerous non-motorized trails including the Waterfall Trails and Ash Canyon to King's Canyon Trail. The area experiences heavy local traffic year-round, and some roads terminate at private property boundaries, requiring riders to be mindful of signage and fencing. Winter conditions present additional hazards including snow drifts and erosion, making seasonal timing important for safe riding. The proximity to wilderness areas like Desolation, Granite Chief, and Mt. Rose provides additional scenic appeal but limits motorized access to designated routes only.Dirt Bike Trail System
