Sevenmile Canyon trail area offers a classic Nevada desert trail network winding through the historic Comstock mining district near Virginia City, featuring challenging double and single-track routes that twist through the Virginia Range. The terrain is rugged and trails are not formally rated, requiring riders to assess difficulty levels independently while navigating the canyon system. The network extends from the Truckee River in the north to Virginia City and Gold Hill in the south, with limited trails reaching all the way to the Truckee River in both due north and northeast directions. The area accommodates multiple vehicle types in a multi-use environment, requiring awareness of other users including ATVs, 4x4s, and potentially hikers exploring the historic sites.
Located in Storey County, the trail system provides unique access to Nevada's mining history with numerous historic ruins, mill sites, mine entrances, and artifacts scattered throughout the riding area. Multiple staging areas are available in OHV-friendly communities, including options near Virginia City, Gold Hill, Washoe Lake State Park, and the terminus of Jumbo Grade. The area features additional attractions such as the Lagomarsino Petroglyph Site with over 200 individual petroglyphs, old ranches, and mining ruins accessible via eastern routes from Virginia City.
